How the 2026 Segunda División works

14 clubs split into a North Zone and a South Zone played a 12-round zonal stage. The best teams in each zone moved on to the Champions' playoff, which awards promotion to the Liga de Ascenso, while the rest play the relegation playoff.

History of Deportes Linares

  1. 1955

    Founded as Lister Rossel, honoring a well-remembered local pediatrician and sportsman, through the merger of the Arturo Prat, Español and Olimpia clubs.

  2. 1974

    Takes the name Deportes Linares.

  3. 1992

    Renamed Frutilinares, a nod to the area's fruit-growing tradition.

  4. 1994

    Tercera División champions.

  5. 2006

    Refounded as Linares Unido.

  6. 2011

    Returns to the name Deportes Linares and wins the Cuarta División.

  7. 2019

    Tercera División champions and return to professional football.

  8. 2022

    Third Tercera División title.

  9. 2025

    Segunda División runners-up with 45 points, behind Puerto Montt.

  10. 2026

    Qualifies for the Champions' playoff and fights for promotion.
